Perched on the steep cliffs of the Nelong Valley, this narrow, vertigo-inducing pathway once served as a vital trade route between India and Tibet. Today, it stands as a testament to the ingenuity of the past, attracting adventurous souls and history enthusiasts alike.

A Historical Marvel

Gartang Gali was originally constructed by the Peshawari Pathans over 150 years ago, during the time when Indo-Tibetan trade was flourishing. This wooden bridge, meticulously carved into the side of a sheer rock face, was a part of the ancient silk route. Traders, shepherds, and pilgrims used this pathway to traverse the treacherous terrain, transporting goods like wool, salt, and food items between the two regions. The bridge, despite its age, remains an incredible feat of engineering, blending seamlessly with the rugged mountainside.

The Thrill of the Walk

Gartang Gali is not for the faint-hearted. The bridge is a narrow, wooden walkway suspended high above the Jadh Ganga River, clinging to the vertical cliff face. As you step onto the bridge, the wooden planks creak underfoot, and the dizzying drop below makes for a heart-pounding experience. The walkway stretches approximately 150 meters, offering breathtaking views of the Nelong Valley and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
